Our agency was started back in the late 1970s by founders, Jon Newton (President and Creative Director), Harry Streamer (VP - Account Service), and Dick Perez (Art Director). At that time, Newton Associates focused on retail (working with Chestnut Hill Development Group and Philadelphia’s NewMarket retail/dining center along the Delaware), sports teams (including the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies), and a mix of B2B and consumer accounts. Dick left the agency after a few years to pursue his dream as a fine art portrait painter of professional athletes (his work is still on display in a gallery affiliated with the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame.
In the early 1980s, Dan Ditzler and Gerry Giambattista joined Newton Associates as Senior Copywriter and Art Director respectively. The agency grew over the next two decades, adding a wide range of accounts. Then, in 2003, Jon and Harry retired and sold the agency to long time employees, Dan and Gerry. We produced most of the work shown here (and a lot more we could share) over the past two decades. In 2025, Gerry retired and Dan rebooted Newton Associates yet again, this time as a consultancy.

The agency first opened in an office in Wynnewood, PA. It outgrew that in the early 1980s and moved to a house converted to office space, in Devon, PA. Later, Jon and Harry purchased a similar building in St. Davids, PA, which was our agency home until a year after Jon and Harry retired and decided to sell the building. At that time, Newton Associates moved to an office park in Plymouth Meeting, PA. We were there through several leases but when new owners purchased the office park and planned significant renovations, Dan and Gerry moved to an agency model of home offices and virtual office space a few minutes away in Plymouth Meeting. Newton continues this low overhead agency model today at that address (600 W. Germantown Pike, Suite 400, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462). That occurred several years before the pandemic, so we like to think we got s headstart on the trend of working remotely and hybrid. The agency first opened in an office in Wynnewood, PA. At a peak, there were 9 of us, and now we are down to 1 - Dan Ditzler. But we have always relied on an army of talented subcontractors (artists, photographers, videographers, digital imagers, printers, researchers, programmers, animators, and more. This approach keeps overhead to a minimum and manages growth, so new clients are never assigned to B or C teams, like they sometimes are at larger agencies.

There is a case to be made for hiring a specialist (SEO, social media, PR, branding) and to choose an agency known for focus on a single industry. However, Newton Associates has always focused on a quick learning curve and client satisfaction. It has enabled us to gain valuable category experience across the world of products and services, getting to know manufacturing, quality control, sales through distribution and installation channels. We have gotten to build lasting relationships with trade media (advertising and editorial). We apply lessons learned in one market to others. Our focus is on branding, messaging, and communication. Our experience page will show you that breadth of know-how.

Most of our long-term client relationships begin with one project that grows into many more. Projects are always budgeted up front. Billing is based on an hourly rate. Some clients use us to plan, purchase, and manage trade media advertising. For those placements, we earn a standard agency sales commission. We do not typically work on a retainer basis, although if a client wants one, so as to plan and budget a predictable monthly figure, we are happy to structure on that basis.

In the past, hiring usually followed addition of a major account. However, even at a time we had a bigger team of employees, we were also contracting with outside creative and production vendors (see our Partners page). The work of these independent collaborators is built into project budgets. Our current model ensures that those who work with us get superior creative work at the lowest possible overhead. So, while we are not looking for full-time help, we are always open to outreach by talented strategic and creative specialists for consideration on new business activity.
